Box Score Northern Illinois got past Chicago State 6-1 in men's tennis Monday afternoon at H-F Racquet and Fitness in Homewood, Illinois. The Huskies won at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles leaving the Cougars duo of
Percy Siercke and
Rodrigo Alves trailing 5-3 when the point was earned. In singles, Alves picked up a win at No. 3 for the Cougars lone win. He won the first set 6-2 and was leading 5-3 in the second when his opponent had to retire due to injury.
"We are starting way too slow in doubles," head coach
Jack Barton said. "We're going to have to focus in practice on improving that aspect. We are not quite there in singles, but we're not far. We just need have to have some guys step up and we should make more noise in our matches."
