The Chicago State women's volleyball team faced off against the Evansville Purple Aces on Monday night in Evansville and earned a 3-0 sweep, their second sweep over the Aces in the last 10 days, last facing each other September 15 in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Yanlis Feliz led the Cougars in kills with a game-high 18, while
Berenice Almeyda added eight and
Wiktoria Zagumny tallied a game-high 34 assists.
First Set - Chicago State 25, Evansville 17
? The Cougars came out hot as they racked up an early 9-3 lead with kills from Feliz, Almeyda,
Mesalina Severino and
Whitney Barnes
? Chicago State rode this early momentum, never looking back as they completely dominated the set and capped it off with a kill from Feliz to go up 1-0 with a set score of 25-17
Second Set - Chicago State 25, Evansville 16
? The Cougars once again jumped out to an early lead, this time with a 4-0 run with two kills from Feliz and two errors from the Purple Aces
? Evansville managed to cut the lead and open up their scoring with a kill at 4-1
? Evansville then committed four errors and the Cougars extended to a five-point lead at 8-3
? Much like in the first set, Chicago State maintained their lead and sealed the victory with a kill from Sandez
Third Set - Chicago State 25, Evansville 18
? Evansville jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with a kill and an attack error from the Cougars
? Chicago State rallied back with kills from Feliz and Zagumny to tie it up 3-3
? The Purple Aces responded with another run, this time at 3-0 to lead 6-3
? The Cougars managed to regain momentum and executed a 7-2 run with kills from Maria Lopez and Sandez, along with a service ace from
Andrea Calderon to turn the match around and lead 10-8
? Chicago State remained in control for the remainder of the set as they capped off the run with a kill from Almeyda to win 25-18 and complete the 3-0 sweep
The Cougars will next take on West Virginia University on Saturday at 12 p.m. in Morgantown, WV
