The Chicago State men's soccer team fell short against the UIC Flames Tuesday night at Gwendolyn Brooks College Prep in Chicago, falling to the Flames despite a late offensive push with a goal from
Danail Sergiev, his third of the season.
In the first half, the Flames pressured offensively and produced several chances but could not find the back of the net with most shots off target.
It wasn't until the 24th minute that the Flames broke through and opened up the scoring at 1-0. The Cougars managed to counterattack and produce several chances but the Flames maintained their 1-0 lead at the break.
At the start of the second half, the Flames continued their pressure and managed to produce another goal at the 49th minute to drop the Cougars into a 2-0 deficit.
The Cougars quickly bounced back with a header from Sergiev off off a corner assist from
Enrique Zamora to inch closer to the Flames 2-1.
Chicago State's rally fell short after several additional chances but never found the back of the net and the Flames managed to hold on and earn the 2-1 win.
The Cougars open Ohio Valley Conference play at Liberty on September 28th at 6 p.m. in Lynchburg, VA.
