Box Score The Chicago State volleyball team blanked Evansville 3-0 Friday morning in a neutral site match at the Thompson-Boling Arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN.
Yanlis Feliz led the Cougars with 21 kills while while
Berenice Almeyda and
Julieta Sandez added eight and six, respectively. added seven.
Andrea Calderon had led in digs with 15 and
Wiktoria Zagumny had 32 assists.
Next up for the Cougars will be a home match on Tuesday, September 19 at 6 p.m. at the Jones Convocation Center against Milwaukee.
Set 1 - Chicago State 25, Evansville 20
-Evansville jumped out to a 5-1 lead but CSU battled back to knot the score 5-5, the first of six ties in the set
-The Cougars took their first lead of the match on a service ace by
Yanlis Feliz to go up 7-6
-Tied at 9-9, CSU reeled off three consecutive points and would tie or trail the rest of the way led by kills by
Patrycja Lagida and
Berenice Almeyda and a bad set by the Aces
-Chicago State led by as many as four before Evansville cut the gap to two, 20-18, but CSU won three of the next four points to match their largest lead of the set, four points, 23-19
-Following an Evansville kill, the Cougars closed it out with a Feliz kill and Aces attack error for the 25-20 win
Set 2 - Chicago State 25, Evansville 20
-Evansville scored the first two points of the set before CSU countered with four of the next five to go up 4-3
-The teams then traded points until the Aces notched consecutive points to go up 8-7
-The Cougars then won five of six, the first three of those on consecutive Feliz kills and the lead was 12-9
-CSU would not tie or trail again and closed out the second-set win with an Aces service error and Feliz kill
Set 3 - Chicago State 25, Evansville 13
-Evansville again jumped out to a 2-0 lead before Chicago State won six of the next eight to go up 6-4
-The Aces countered with a pair to tie the match but CSU countered, winning eight of the next 11 to go up 14-9
-Evansville scored the next point to trail by four, 14-10, but the Cougars never let the Aces within four the rest of the way, eventually winning the set 25-13 and the match 3-0
