Box Score The No. 15 Tennessee Volunteers swept past the Chicago State volleyball team 3-0 Thursday afternoon at the Thompson-Boling Arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, TN.
Yanlis Feliz led the Cougars with nine kills while freshman
Patrycja Lagida added seven.
Andrea Calderon had eight digs to lead CSU and
Wiktoria Zagumny had 21 assists.
The Cougars will be back in action Friday morning, taking on Evansville in a neutral site matchup in Knoxville, TN at 10 a.m. at Thompson-Boling Arena on the campus of the University of Tennessee.
Set 1 - Tennessee 25, Chicago State 13
-The teams traded points before a
Mesalina Severino kill and Tennessee attack error gave the Cougars a 4-3 lead
-The Vols then went on a 5-0 run to go up 8-4 before a
Patrycja Lagida kill and UT attack error pulled CSU to within two, 8-6
-The teams exchanged a pair of points when the Vols earned the eight of 11 points to go up 18-11
-The Cougars had kills by Lagida and
Yanlis Feliz to pull within six, 19-13, but the Vols scored six consecutive points to close out the set
Set 2 - Tennessee 25, Chicago State 14
-Chicago State jumped out to a 2-1 lead before the Vols scored seven of the next 10 to double up CSU 8-4
-The teams exchanged scores before a Lagida kill and UT attack error pulled CSU within two, 10-8
-The score was 14-11 following a UT attack error which forced a Vols timeout which prompted a 6-1 UT run and 20-12 lead
-The Cougars had kills by
Whitney Barnes and
Berenice Almeyda and the score was 21-14 then UT closed the set out with a four-point run and 25-14 victory
Set 3 - Tennessee 25, Chicago State 13
-The Cougars jumped out to an early lead again in the third set, with 2-1 and 3-2 leads but the Vols were trading two-for-one scores to tie and increase their lead to 12-8
-A pair of Feliz kills pulled the Cougars to within two, 12-10, but Tennessee ran off nine of the next 10 to go up 21-11
-CSU managed a pair of kills, one by Severino and another by Feliz, and UT closed out the set and match with a 25-11 win
