Box Score The Chicago State men's tennis team closed out the 2023 season with a 4-3 loss to Northern Kentucky Sunday afternoon at the H-F Racquet and Fitness Club in Homewood. The Cougars dropped the doubles point with losses at No. 2 and 3 doubles and lost consecutive singles matches at Nos. 5, 3 and 6 and the match was over before Chicago State could rally. The Cougars did win the final three matches highlighted by
Pedro Alvarez's straight set win at No. 2 which capped a perfect 8-0 conference singles record for the junior who closed out the season with a 13-match win streak.
"Today was pretty disappointing after the fight we showed yesterday," head coach
Jack Barton said. "I thought we could have played much better at the No. 3, 5 & 6 singles positions. I just don't think they were as locked in as they should have been. I'm not sure if it was nerves, but it was not what I was expecting from them. Today's result has kind of been the story of our season. We need to get back to the drawing board and try to have a better level of sustained success going forward."
