NCAA Releases Graduation Success Rate Data

The NCAA released its annual Graduation Success Rate (GSR) data for incoming student-athletes and Chicago State achieved a class average of 71 percent, based on the cohort starting during the 2013-16 academic year and who graduated within six years. The men's tennis team recorded a graduation rate of 100 percent for the sixth consecutive year. Other highlights include the men's golf team with an 89 percent GSR and women's soccer, women's tennis and volleyball each checking in at 80 while the CSU student-athletes continue to graduate at a higher rate than the general student body, 14 percent higher across the four-class average.

The NCAA launched the Graduation Success Rate (GSR) in 1999. GSR measures graduation rates for student-athletes by team. The GSR considers student-athletes who are on scholarship their first year and who graduate from their respective universities or leave their programs, via transfer to other universities or for professional opportunities, while in good academic standing. The data is based on a six-year cohort starting in 2011-12, for 2018 graduates, 2012-13 for 2019 graduates, 2013-14 for 2020 graduates, 2014-15 for 2021, 2015-16 for 2022 graduates and 2016-17 for 2023 graduates.

ABOUT THE NCAA's GRADUATION SUCCESS RATE:
The NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) is designed to show the proportion of student-athletes on any given team who earn a college degree. The NCAA has imposed a new set of academic standards that seeks to hold teams and institutions accountable for how well a student-athlete progresses toward a degree.
