The Chicago State men's basketball lost to No. 24 Wisconsin 80-53 Friday night at the Kohl Center in Madison. The Badgers used an early 12-0 run to jump out to a 20-5 lead but the Cougars battled back to cut the lead to five, 28-23, before UW closed the half with a 10-2 run to lead by 13 at the half. Wisconsin maintained their lead and produced another run, this time 9-0, to extend the lead and close out the 27-point win.
Wesley Cardet was the only Cougars player in double figures with 10 points on a cold shooing night as CSU hit just 20-of-63 shots (31.7 percent), including 3-of-19 from beyond the three-point arc (15.8 percent).
First Half - Wisconsin 38, Chicago State 25
- The Badgers jumped out to an early 6-2 lead with the only buckets for the Cougars coming from two free throws by Wesley Cardet
- Despite the Badgers scoring a deuce, the Cougars inched closer as
Cameron Jernigan converted two along with Corbett's one at the stripe to reach an 8-5 score
- Both teams then went on a two minute scoring drought, when Wisconsin suddenly went on a 12-0 run as they increased their lead to 20-5
- The Cougars managed to retaliate with a trey from
Noble Crawford and a tough layup from Corbett to cut the Badgers lead and reach a 20-10 score
- Chicago State were able to outscore the Badgers 13-8 with buckets from Crawford, Cardet, Corbett,
Kedrick Green, and Teshaundre Cole as they trailed by only five at 28-23
- Wisconsin bounced back to end the half as they outscored the Cougars 10-2 and cemented their lead at the half with a 38-25 score
Second Half - Wisconsin 80, Chicago State 53
- The Badgers opened up the half with a 3-0 run, furthering their lead to 41-25
- The Cougars then managed to go on a small 4-2 run with scoring from Cardet and
Brent Davis, resulting in a 43-29 score
- Wisconsin continued on with a 9-0 run, reaching a 52-29 score
- Chicago State were able to answer back with a run of their own at 5-0 after two jumpers from Green and a free throw from Crawford to reach a 52-34 score
- Wisconsin had cemented their lead and went on to outscore Chicago State 28-19 to finish the game as they took the win with a final score of 80-53
The Cougars return to action on Wednesday, December 27 at California Baptist at 9:00 p.m.
