National recognition is pouring in for Chicago State junior guard Wesley Cardet who averaged 29.0 points per game in two Cougars victories during the week, upending No. 25 Northwestern 75-73 Wednesday and Valparaiso 63-62 Saturday afternoon. For his efforts, Cardet was named Andy Katz's and Dick Vitale's Player of the Week and Lou Henson's National Player of the Week.
Cardet scored 30 points against Northwestern in Chicago State's first-ever win over a Top 25 team. He shot 13-of-21 from the field including 3-of-9 from beyond the three-point arc then followed that performance at Valparaiso shooting 8-of-12 from the field and 3-of-3 from three. He capped a Cougars 10-0 run over the final 4:21 of the game, erasing a nine-point deficit with a driving layup with 2.8 seconds remaining for the win. That basket, his 28th point of the game, was also his 1,000-career point.
