Topete and Donat Juhasz Named to All-Newcomer Team

Chicago State men's soccer players Calwayne Allen and Iann Topete were named to the All-OVC First Team the OVC announced today. Additionally, Topete and Donat Juhasz were selected to the All-Newcomer Team. Top-seeded and OVC Men's Soccer Championship host SIUE earned four of the six individual awards as selected by a vote of the league's head coaches and communications directors.

The Cougars earned the No. 5 seed in the 2023 OVC tournament and went into the final two matches, on the road, needing points to secure a spot in the tournament field. Chicago State rose to the challenge and pitched a pair of shutouts, tying Incarnate Word 0-0 and, in a winner advance and loser eliminated season finale, Chicago State earned a 2-0 victory at Houston Baptist and, with the win, a tournament berth. Allen was recognized for a consistent season and played all 180 minutes in the two scoreless games while Topete was among the league's scoring leaders all season, ranking in a tie for first in points (7) and goals (7) and second in points per game (1.50) and goals per game (0.70). Juhasz ranked in a tie for third in assists (4) and assists per game (0.40).
