Jacia Cunningham dropped 19 points and Tae'Lor Willard tallied 11 in a 102-47 women's basketball loss at Illinois State on Thursday night.
First Quarter - Illinois State 26, Chicago State 12
- The Redbirds opened the scoring with one free throw to go up 1-0
- The Cougars answered with a tough layup from Cunningham to take the lead at 2-1
- Illinois State then went on a 12-0 run which increased their lead to 13-2 with six minutes remaining in the first
- The Cougars managed to stop the run with a jumper from Willard, resulting in a 13-4 score
- Illinois State went on to hold the Cougars to six more points as they went on to lead 26-12 after the first
Second Quarter - Illinois State 49, Chicago State 25
- The Redbirds continued scoring, this time with a deuce and one free throw, to increase their lead to 29-12
- Chicago State retaliated with a pull up trey from Parrish reaching a 29-15 score
- Both teams then went on to trade buckets, however the Cardinals maintained their lead 40-21
- Chicago State managed to finish on a 4-3 run with buckets from Willard and Hill, yet still trailed 49-25 at the half
Third Quarter - Illinois State 74, Chicago State 37
- The Redbirds opened up with a 6-0 run, leading 55-25
- The Cougars cut the run with a drive from
Taylor Norris and one free throw from Cunningham which resulted in a 55-28 lead
- The Redbirds then locked down the Cougars, only allowing nine points to their 19, which cemented their lead to 74-37 heading into the final quarter
Fourth Quarter - Illinois State 102, Chicago State 47
- Throughout the final quarter, the Redbirds continued to solidify their leas as they outscored the Cougars 28-10 to seal their victory with a final score of 102-47
The Cougars will return home to the Jones Convocation Center on Saturday, December 2 where they will host Norfolk State at 1 p.m.
