The Chicago State women's basketball team lost to Kansas City 77-46 Wednesday afternoon in first round action of the Cleveland State Invitational. The Cougars will play tournament host Cleveland State Friday at noon.
First Quarter - Kansas City 23, Chicago State 9
- The Cougars opened the scoring with a layup each from
Jacia Cunningham and
Josie Hill to jump out to a 4-0 lead
- The Kangaroos bounced back with a 6-0 run to take the lead at 6-4
- Chicago State answered with an
Ana Haklicka jumper to knot the score at 6-6
- Kansas City closed the quarter with a 17-3 run to lead 23-9 at the end of one quarter of play
Second Quarter - Kansas City 39, Chicago State 26
- The Kangaroos opened the scoring with a layup to continue increase their lead to 25-9
- The Cougars then managed a run of their own at 11-2 with buckets from Cunningham,
ZiKeyah Carter,
Claire Simmons, and Evangeline Parrish to trail by seven, 27-20
- The Kangaroos finished the quarter outscoring the Cougars 12-6 and led 39-26 at the half
Third Quarter - Kansas City 62, Chicago State 33
- Kansas City began with an early 8-0 run to increase their lead to 47-26 score, outscoring the Cougars 23-7 for a decisive 62-33 lead going into the final stanza.
Fourth Quarter - Kansas City 77, Chicago State 46
- Kansas City continued to hold onto the momentum as they did throughout the game to seal the win with a commanding 77-46 score.
