Volleyball Sweeps Western Illinois 3-0

The Chicago State women's volleyball team faced off against the Western Illinois Bulldogs earning a 3-0 sweep Tuesday night in Macomb. Yanlis Feliz led in kills with a game-high 11, Mesalina Severino tallied eight and Wiktoria Zagumny racked up a game-high 35 assists.

First Set - Chicago State 25, Western Illinois 16
? The Cougars came out hot jumping out to an impressive 7-0 lead with kills from Severino and Julieta Sandez, along with several errors by the Bulldogs
? The Bulldogs were able to stop the run at 7-1, but the Cougars kept on rallying with kills from Maria Lopez, Berenice Almeyda and Severino to go up 10-3
? Chicago State continued the momentum and dominated the set with a win capped off with a kill from Feliz at 25-16 to go up 1-0

Second Set - Chicago State 25, Western Illinois 20
? The Bulldogs earned the first point of the set and the Cougars retaliated with a 3-0 run with a kill from Sandez and two errors from the Bulldogs to go up 3-1
? Western Illinois bounced back and managed to force Chicago State into back-and-forth scoring which led to a 16-16 score
? Cougars then went on a 9-4 run to once again assert their dominance and take the set win at 25-20 and go up 2-0 with a chance to sweep

Third Set - Chicago State 25, Western Illinois 13
? Chicago State once again took over early and went on a 7-1 run with kills from Wiktoria Zagumny, Almeyda, Lopez and Feliz
? The Cougars took this early lead and never looked back as they once again completely took over the set and sealed the win with a 25-13 score to complete the 3-0 sweep

The Cougars will once again take on the Bulldogs as they return home to the JCC on October 17th at 6 p.m.
