Box Score The Chicago State volleyball team swept Western Illinois for the second consecutive match, getting past the Leathernecks 25-21, 25-16, 25-17 Tuesday night at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago. The Cougars hadn't played a match in two weeks, last playing at Western Illinois in Macomb on October 3 where CSU also won by a 3-0 count.
Yanlis Feliz led all players with 148 kills just ahead of teammate
Whitney Barnes who tallied 13.
Andrea Calderon was the match leader in digs with 14 while
Wiktoria Zagumny registered 38 assists.
Chicago State will be back home at the Jones Convocation Center on Monday, October 23 to host the Evansville Purple Aces, a team the Cougars have faced two times this season, winning each by 3-0 scores.
Set 1 - Â Chicago State 25, Western Illinois 21
-Western Illinois jumped out to 4-1, 6-2 and 8-3 leads before Chicago State rallied on a kill by
Whitney Barnes and Leathernecks attack error to cut the gap to 8-5

-The teams traded points and were tied 10-10, 12-12 and 13-13 when the Cougars won seven of eight on the strength of a Feliz and two Barnes kills to go up 19-14
-Western Illinois scored five of the next seven to cut the lead to 21-19
-The teams traded points and with CSU leading 22-20, Julieta Sendez got a kill followed by a WIU attack error and the Leathernecks staved off one set point before a Barnes kill closed out the 25-21 win
Set 2 - Â Chicago State 25, Western Illinois 16
-The teams exchanged points early until a 3-0 run on the strength of two Barnes kills gave the Cougars a 5-3 lead
-Western rallied to a 5-5 tie before an attack error and another Barnes kill to give CSU a 7-5 lead
-Following a Leathernecks point, Chicago State ran off six of the next seven points to extend the lead to 13-7
-The teams exchanged points before a pair of 2-1 CSU runs and the Cougars led 18-10
-The Leathernecks scored the next two but would get no closer than six points the rest of the way but did turn away two set points before a Feliz kill closed out the 25-16 set
Set 3 - Â Chicago State 25, Western Illinois 17
-The teams were tied for the first eight points of the match, 4-4, before Chicago State won five of six points to go up 9-5Â
-Western won four of the next six points to pull within two, 11-9, but CSU countered with a Feliz kill, an attack error and
Wiktoria Zagumny service ace to go up 14-9
-The teams traded pairs of points then single points until CSU had an 18-15 advantage and back-to-back kills by
Berenice Almeyda and Feliz and the Cougars held a 20-15 advantage
-Following a CSU service and attack error, the margin was just three, 20-17, before the Cougars closed the set and match on kills by Sandez, Zagumny and Feliz, a solo block by
Mesalina Severino and a Leathernecks attack error ended the match
