Chicago State Tennis Earn Titles at Purdue University Northwest Fall Invitational

Chicago State's men's and women's tennis teams competed in the Purdue University Northwest Fall Invitational at Matchpoint Racket in Griffith, Indiana over the past two days with play winding up Saturday afternoon. The Cougars women's team swept through quarterfinal matches in singles Flight A play with Katarina Dukic, Manuella Eloundou, Nia Cooper and Sofiya Sedovich all earning wins and advancing to the semifinals where they will decide the tournament title Tuesday with semifinal play at H-F Racquet & Fitness Club with then winners advancing to the title match which they will contest Thursday. In the women's Flight B singles, Cougars women comprised three of the four finalists in Ethel Li, Helin Alvarez and Amina Taibi. Li defeated Alvarez and Taibi picked up a victory so Li and Taibi will also play Thursday to decide the flight title. The women also dominated doubles play where Katarina Dukic and Sofiya Sedovich defeated Nia Cooper and Ethel Li 7-6 (7-5) in an all-Cougars final in women's open doubles.

On the men's side, Pedro Alvarez never dropped a set and lost just 10 games in four matches en route to the Flight A men's open singles title where he earned the title with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Luka Markovic from Bethel. He also teamed with Max Sandoval to advance to the title match in doubles where the settled for a second-place finish. Other highlights for the men included Austin Hunter and Reed Gahagan earning their first victories in a Cougars uniform.
