Men's Soccer Earns 3-3 Draw Against SIU

The Chicago State men's soccer team played at Southern Indiana University Thursday afternoon in Evansville, Indiana and managed to secure a 3-3 draw after being down 3-0, capping the comeback with an 88th-minute equalizer from Iann Topete, his second goal of the game and team-leading fifth goal  of the season.

In the first half, SIU took off quickly and scored two goals in back-to-back minutes to lead early by a score of 2-0.

The Cougars looked to press up the field, yet were eventually caught on a counterattack by SIU as they now led 3-0 at the 22nd minute mark.

Chicago State quickly retaliated to open up their scoring at the 29th minute as Jaiye Sheppard earned his second goal of the season to gain some momentum heading into the break trailing by two with a score of 3-1.

To start the second half, both teams managed to hold off one another as the score remained 3-1 despite several scoring threats. It wasn't until the 69th minute that the Cougars broke through as Iann Topete finished it off to now trail by only one goal with 20 minutes left at 3-2.

Chicago State's constant pressure up the field finally payed off as Topete fired in his second goal of the match to equalize with two minutes remaining in the match to pull out a 3-3 draw after being down 3-0.

The Cougars will next face Eastern Illinois on Sunday, October 15 at 3:30 p.m. in Charleston, Illinois.
