Evansville, Ind. — The Chicago State men's soccer team played to a 1-1 draw on Saturday night against the Southern Indiana Screaming Eagles, earning a hard-fought point on the road.
The homestanding Screaming Eagles struck first in the fourth minute, as Zach Barton scored a goal on an assist by Nick Faddis to make the score 1-0.
Down 1-0 at the 28th minute, Danial Sergiev played a ball through to Jethro Yumange, who banged in his second goal of the season to even the match at 1-1.
The tied score held to halftime, with Chicago State and Southern Indiana knotted up.
In the second half, the Cougars and Screaming Eagles continued to attack but with neither team breaking through to score. After 90 minutes, the score remained 1-1, and the Cougars' record moved to 1-5-3.
Marco Seyfert logged four saves in the draw, and the Cougars outshot the Screaming Eagles, 12 to 9.
Chicago State returns to action on Sunday, October 2 against Western Michigan at 12:00 p.m. before their home conference debut on October 6 vs. Northern Illinois.

Chicago State volleyball recorded a historic season in 2021, with Yanlis Feliz becoming CSU's first volleyball All-American and head coach Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year. During that same season, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
