EAST LANSING, MI - The Chicago State volleyball team battled it out against the Michigan State Spartans and suffered a 3-1 loss.
Yanlis Feliz finished with eleven kills, while Whitney Barnes added on nine and Berenice Almeyda tallied eight.
Set One - Michigan State: 25, Chicago State: 19
- The Spartans kicked the set off with a 5-1 rally to quickly stun the Cougars
- This set a trend for the set as the Spartans held the lead through it all
- The Cougars got near with a ferocious kill from Mesalina Severino at 15-18
- Nonetheless, the Spartans never let up and sealed the set win with a final score of 25-19
Set Two - Michigan State: 25, Chicago State: 17
- The Spartans gained the first point to go up 1-0
- The Cougars retaliated with a 3-0 run featuring a kill and a service ace from Yanlis Feliz
- However, the Spartans quickly came back to tie up at 4-4
- The Spartans then rampaged on with a 6-0 run to stun the Cougars and suddenly lead 11-4
- Ultimately, The Spartans took the set win as the Cougars were unsuccessful to come back
Set Three - Chicago State: 25, Michigan State:22
- The Cougars kicked off the set with an astonishing kill from Feliz
- Nonetheless, the Spartans quickly bounced back to tie it up at 1-1
- These early plays set the trend for the whole set, as both teams kept up with each other
- It wasn't until a 22-22 tie that the Cougars finally pulled away with a 3-0 run, which featured a kill from Almeyda and two service aces from Yunju Lee to win the set
Set Four - Michigan State: 25, Chicago State:20
- The Cougars began with a 2-0 run, due to two attack errors from the Spartans
- However, the Spartans managed to come back and tie it up at 4-4
- Much like in previous sets, the Spartans and the Cougars were able to score back-and-forth as neither team pulled away
- These events led to a 18-18 tie when the Spartans suddenly pulled away from the Cougars with a 7-2 rally to win the set and match
The Cougars next face Oakland today at 6:30 P.M. as they continue their run in the Green & White Classic.

Chicago State volleyball recorded a historic season in 2021, with Yanlis Feliz becoming CSU's first volleyball All-American and head coach Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year. During that same season, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
