EAST LANSING, MI - The Chicago State volleyball team faced off against the Evansville Purple Aces Friday night and suffered a loss, three sets to one.
Yanlis Feliz led the Cougars in kills with twenty, while Maria Lopez added on eight and Whitney Barnes tallied six.
Set One - Evansville: 25, Chicago State: 20
- The match began with a ferocious kill from Feliz to go up 1-0
- The Aces answered right back with a 2-0 run to lead 2-1
- The Cougars then produced a 3-0 run featuring a kill from Feliz and two attacking errors by the Aces
- These plays set a trend of back-and-forth scoring which led to a 19-19 tie
- The Aces suddenly went on a 6-1 rally to take the set win
Set Two - Chicago State: 25, Evansville: 13
- The set began much like the first set, as a 2-2 tie ensued
- However, the Cougars then went on a 6-1 rally which featured kills by Severino, Feliz, and Barnes
- From this point in the set, the Aces attempted several times to produce scoring runs but were unsuccessful
- The Cougars rampaged on and ended up taking the set win with an impressive score of 25-13
Set Three - Evansville: 25, Chicago State: 20
- The Aces began with a 4-1 rally to stun the Cougars early
- Chicago State then rallied back with a 3-1 run to near the Aces at 5-6
- Nonetheless, the Aces answered right back with runs of their own as the Cougars failed to bounce back
- Ultimately, the Aces took the set win at 25-20 and were just one win away from winning the match
Set Four - Evansville: 25, Chicago State: 20
- Evansville once again started out with a 4-1 lead early on
- However, the Cougars bounced back with a 4-1 rally of their own featuring a kill by Feliz to tie it up at 8-8
- This trend continued up to a 16-16 tie
- The Aces then charged forward went on a 8-4 run to seal the set win and take the match with a final score of 3-1
The Cougars continue their Green & White Classic run tomorrow against the Michigan State Spartans at 9 A.M.

Chicago State volleyball recorded a historic season in 2021, with Yanlis Feliz becoming CSU's first volleyball All-American and head coach Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year. During that same season, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
