ALL-TIME Seattle U leads the all-time series, 16-5, with CSU winning the last matchup, a 64-57 win on Jan. 10. That day, Seattle native Aaliyah Collins dropped her first collegiate double-double, a 26-point, 10-rebound outing in Chicago State's first conference win of the Tiffany Sardin era. Janiah Newell (12 points) and Quentarra Mitchell (13 points) also scored in double figures in the victory. In Chicago, the Cougars are 3-7 with their last JCC win over the Redhawks coming on Feb. 23, 2019.

LAST TIME OUT The Cougars fell to California Baptist, 76-69, in an overtime thriller Wednesday at the Jones Convocation Center. The Cougars fell behind early, 20-4, but stormed back to tie the game in the fourth quarter, eventually taking a lead late. The Lancers pushed back to force OT, where they cruised for their 21st win. Aaliyah Collins led the Cougars with 17 points, while Quentarra Mitchell scored 12 and Allysah Boothe dropped in 11. Nafa Haidara grabbed 14 boards on a four-point scoring night.

SIZING UP THE REDHAWKS Head coach Suzy Barcomb's Redhawks have won three of five games to clinch a berth in the WAC Tournament. Seattle U went just 1-7 in January but won four games in February, and the Redhawks are coming off a 69-61 win over Dixie State last Saturday. Senior guard Bree Calhoun scores 13.1 points per game, and she ranks in the top-three in the WAC in steals (2.6) and assists per game (4.8).

CLIMBING THE RANKS As just a freshman, former Washington State Player of the Year Aaliyah Collins has taken the conference — and nation — by storm. She leads the Cougars (and ranks sixth in the WAC) with 14.6 points per game, and her 2.5 steals per game rank fourth in the league, an average that ranks 27th in NCAA Division I. On Tuesday, Jan. 18, Collins earned the first USBWA Freshman of the Week honor for a WAC student-athlete and the first for a mid-major player since Nov. 2019. Collins has also been named WAC Freshman of the Week five times this season, the most ever for a Chicago State basketball player, men's or women's.
