Box Score The Chicago State men's tennis team lost to Grand Canyon 5-2 Saturday morning at the Thompson Family Tennis Center in Beaumont, Texas. With the win, GCU improves to 4-13 overall and 2-2 in the WAC after wins over Seattle U and Chicago State this weekend while the Cougars drop to 8-13 overall and 0-4 in league play after a pair of weekend losses.
The Antelopes earned the double point with a sweep of the three matches but
Pedro Alvarez started strong for the Cougars in singles, earning a straight-set 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 1 but GCU would win the next four matches to clinch the win, while CSU's
Hugo Hidalgo Vega capped the match with a three-set victory. Complete results below.
"These guys did everything they could to win this match," head coach
Jack Barton said. "Doubles came down to too many unforced errors, but it wasn't a lack of effort. Conditions were tough today. Hugo (Hidalgo Vega), Jakov (Suler) and Jakub (Zamorski) fought to extend the match after Pedro (Alvarez) won. The guys battled hard. They played well enough to win, but GCU really hung tough today."
The men's tennis team will take next weekend off and return to the court in the final WAC pod of the season, facing Lamar Friday, April 8 and Seattle U on Saturday, April 9 in Abilene, Texas hosted by Abilene Christian.
