Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 The Chicago State men's and women's tennis teams lost by identical 5-2 scores at Creighton this afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Courts in Omaha, Nebraska. Both teams lost the doubles points and claimed singles victories in two of the six singles matches.
Cali Fuller and Katrarina Dukic earned wins for the CSU women while
Pedro Alvarez and
Hugo Hidalgo Vega won for the men. Complete results listed below.
"We knew our women faced a tough battle and we made sure every match was earned and not given," associate head coach
Adesuwa Osabuohien said. "We had big wins at No. 1 and No. 5 singles and Katarina (Drazic) stay resilient but lost the momentum need to pull out the third set. We'll regroup and get ready for next weekend."
Head coach
Jack Barton was disappointed with how the outcome of the men's match may have shifted in the last match of doubles where
Pedro Alvarez and
Jesus Perez Plaza lost 7-5.
"We let this one slip away," head coach Barton said regarding the men's match. "We were up 5-3, serving for the doubles point, and we lost 7-6. Being able to stay mentally in the game and not let our minds stray when one bad thing happens was important for us today and important going forward. We need to work on that. We have to stay in a positive place and learn to overcome mentally when things get tough."
The men will be back in action Saturday, Feb. 26 at Lindenwood in St. Charles, Missouri, while the women will be at the University of Tennessee at Martin in Martin, Tennessee the same day. Both teams will then travel to and face Saint Louis on Sunday, Feb. 27.
