Chicago State Men’s Tennis Falls to Michigan State 5-2

Cougars Sweep Three Matches to earn Doubles Point

Box Score The Chicago State men's tennis team lost to Michigan State 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility in East Lansing, Michigan. Chicago State opened the match with a strong showing, sweeping each of the three doubles matches to earn the team point. The Spartans won five of the six singles matches to earn the victory but Pedro Alvarez was a highlight for the Cougars, earning a 4-6, 6-4, 10-2 win at No. 1. Complete results below.

"I'm really proud of the team tonight," head coach Jack Barton said. "I think the last match (7-0 loss to Illinois State) left a bitter taste so the guys wanted to prove to themselves they are a better team than their last performance.

"We won the doubles point convincingly. It was probably the best doubles we've played all season. We knew singles was going be tough, but the guys were ready. Michigan State had to earn the win today. We didn't give them anything. We were in every match. Pedro (Alvarez) came up huge with a win at No. 1 singles. The guys were disappointed with the final score but they gave their all. If we keep this up, we will be ready mid-March for conference."

Next up for the Cougars will be a trip to South Bend, Indiana to take the Fighting Irish on Sunday, Feb. 14 at 4 p.m. at the Eck Tennis Pavilion.
