NEWARK, DE - The Chicago State volleyball team faced off against the Delaware Blue Hens and lost 3-0.
Mesalina Severino led in kills with eight, while both Yanlis Feliz and Berenice Almeyda added on five of their own.
Set One - Delaware 25, Chicago State 16
- Delaware stunned the Cougars early with an 8-0 rally with five of the points coming from attack errors by Chicago State
- This early lead ultimately served as momentum for the Blue Hens to cruise all the way to a set win and go up 1-0 after a comfortable 25-16 win
- The Cougars committed 15 attacking errors which served as a key to Delaware's win
Set Two - Delaware 25, Chicago State 16
- Delaware kicked it off with a 3-0 rally
- The Cougars ended it with a beautiful service ace from Savannah Seemans
- The Blue Hens then retook the momentum with another 3-0 rally to go up 6-1
- The Cougars nonetheless managed to maintain the Blue Hens at bay with a 3-0 rally featuring a kill by Laura Ilizastigui at 9-10
- Unfortunately, the Blue Hens retaliated with a 5-0 rally and once again with this momentum finished off the set win with the exact same score of 25-16
Set Three - Delaware 29, Chicago State 27
- The Blue Hens began with 1-0 lead
- Nonetheless the Cougars bounced back with a ferocious kill from Julieta Sandez
- Delaware then jumped out to a 5-2 lead, however a 4-0 rally with a kill from Almeyda and a service ace from Yunju Lee gave the Cougars the lead at 6-5
- These plays set in motion a very tight game which led to a 25-25 thriller which required a two-point lead to win
- In the end, the Blue Hens finished off with a 3-0 rally to win the set and match to sweep the Cougars 3-0
The Cougars next take on the University of Hartford on Friday at 5 P.M. in West Hartford, CT.

Chicago State University Athletics is comprised of 15 intercollegiate teams involving over 150 student-athletes that compete in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and volleyball. Their feat marked the first time the Chicago State's men's track & field program was represented at the national meet. Chicago State volleyball recorded a historic season in 2021, with Yanlis Feliz becoming CSU's first volleyball All-American and head coach Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year. During that same season, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
