WEST HARTFORD, CT - The Chicago State volleyball team battled it out against the university of Hartford and won with a clean 3-0 sweep.
Yanlis Feliz led in kills with twenty-nine while both Maria Lopez and Berenice Almeyda added on twelve each.
Set One - Chicago State 25, Hartford 11
- The Cougars kicked it off with a 2-0 lead thanks to an attack error from Hartford and a beautiful kill from Julieta Sandez
- This gifted an advantage to the Cougars as it served as momentum
- The Cougars went on and eventually held a 9-0 rally featuring kills from Jaclyn Inclan, Almeyda, and Feliz.
- The Cougars finished with a 2-0 run after a ferocious kill from Feliz to seal the win and completely dominate with a score of 25-11
Set Two - Chicago State 25, Hartford 14
- The Cougars once agin began with a 2-0 lead due to two amazing service aces from Inclan
- Nonetheless, the Hawks bounced right back with a 4-0 run to stun the Cougars
- However, Chicago State retaliated with a 5-0 run with kills from Inclan, Feliz, and Sandez to now lead 7-4
- This rally led to yet another dominating win as the Cougars rolled on and finished with a 4-0 rally at a final score of 25-14, one win way from a sweep
Set Three - Chicago State 25, Hartford 20
- Chicago State began with a kill from Mesalina Severino however the Hawks bounced right back to tie it up 1-1
- This set a trend of back-and-forth scoring which led to a 17-17 tied score
- Suddenly, the Cougars erupted for a 5-0 rally thanks to four errors by the Hawks and a stunning kill from Laura Ilizastigui
- This rally eventually led to the Cougars win as they completed a clean 3-0 sweep with.a final score of 25-20
The Cougars take on the Hawks once again tomorrow at 5 P.M. in West Hartford, CT.
