Chicago State Set to Play Second of Two Back-to-Back Games
Fresh off a morning/matinee loss at the University of Evansville (82-57), the Chicago State women's basketball team will play their third game in four days, traveling to Fort Wayne, Indiana from Evansville to face Purdue Fort Wayne on Thursday, November 17 at 7 p.m. at the Gate Sports Center.
Purdue Fort Wayne will bring a 2-1 record into Thursday's contest, beating Goshen (90-45) and Belllarmine (73-62) while losing to Michigan State (85-53).
The Mastadons are 5-1 all time against Chicago State with the lone Cougars win coming during the 2009 season, a 69-56 win at the JCC. The two teams last played during the 2015-16 season, a 62-51 Mastadons win in Fort Wayne. Chicago State opened the week with a home game against UIC (Monday), played Evansville with a morning tip (Wednesday, 11a.m. CT) and now will face Purdue Fort Wayne at 7 p.m. Thursday.
"Going the independent route was a little difficult because a lot of people did not want to play us in January or February, with their bye week, which I totally understand," head coach Andrea Williams said. "We are jam packed this first semester. I've told our coaches to shorten those scouting reports on other teams, worry about us and get them ready. We've got to make sure we're healthy. We're going to have quick turnarounds so it's going to be like going back to their AAU days, playing about every other day, just have to take care of our bodies. The schedule is great because we have some Big Ten competition and Colorado wants to play here during Thanksgiving break, so that's huge. It's nice to get some of these quality teams, NCAA quality teams in our gym and we're playing a lot of postseason teams from a year ago so it'll be a challenge."
