TOWSON, MD - The Chicago State volleyball team took on the Towson Tigers and lost 3-1.
Whitney Barnes finished with fourteen kills, while
Yanlis Feliz added on thirteen, and
Julieta Sandez tallied ten.
Set One - Chicago State 26. Towson 24
The Tigers kicked it off with a 2-0 run
Nonetheless, the Cougars caught up with a 3-1 rally featuring a kill from Feliz and a service ace from
Berenice Almeyda
Both teams went on to gain leads however the other would eventually catch up, leading to a 24-24 thriller
Suddenly, the Cougars produced a ferocious kill from
Whitney Barnes and with a bad set from Towson, they took the set win
Set Two - Towson 34, Chicago State 32
Towson once again kicked it off with a lead at 1-0
However, the Cougars bounced back thanks to two consecutive attack errors from the Tigers
Once again neither team got an edge on the other and led to a back-and-forth scoring trend
This led to a 25-25 tie which forced a team to win by two
It wasn't until a stunning 32-32 tie that Towson finally won by two to tie up the overall to 1-1
Set Three - Towson 25, Chicago State 18
The Cougars kicked it off with a 2-0 lead thanks to a beautiful kill from
Mesalina Severino and a Tigers attack error
The Tigers answered back with one, however the Cougars did as well with a mesmerizing kill from Feliz
Eventually, Towson caught up and next overtook the Cougars 8-10 lead after a 5-1 rally
The Cougars fell short as the Towson rode on this early momentum to win the set and take the lead at 2-1
Set Four - Towson
Chicago State began with a 2-0 run featuring a service ace from
Jaclyn Inclan
The Tigers answered back with a 3-1 rally to tie it up 3-3
Towson then went on to produce a 6-0 run and suddenly led 9-4
The Tigers once again rode on momentum and finished on a 6-2 rally to take the set win and match
The Cougars next take on Hofstra University in Hempstead, NY on October 30th at noon.

Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year. During that same season, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
