HEMPSTEAD, NY - The Chicago State volleyball team battled it out against Hofstra University and won 3-1.
Yanlis Feliz finished with a game-high twenty-four kills while Sandez added on nine and Severino tallied eight.
Set One - Hofstra 25, Chicago State 22
- The Pride kicked it off with a 6-0 lead to stun the Cougars early
- Nonetheless, Chicago State managed to retaliate and tie up the game 14-14 after a ferocious kill from Feliz
- The game remained tied up all the way up to a 19-19 score
- However, the Pride suddenly went on a 6-3 run to seal the set win and go up 1-0
Set Two - Chicago State 25, Hofstra 22
- Hofstra began with a 1-0 lead due to a service error from the Cougars
- Chicago State jumped right back with a beautiful kill from Feliz
- The Cougars then went on a 4-2 run featuring two kills from Feliz to lead 5-3
- Hofstra eventually bounced back and much like in the first set, it all led to a a very tight game with a 23-22 lead
- However, the Cougars suddenly flipped the script and went on a 2-0 rally featuring a kill from Lopez and a service ace from Feliz to seal the set win and tie the match 1-1
Set Three - Chicago State 25, Hofstra 23
- The Cougars began with a 7-1 rally featuring kills from Feliz, Jaclyn Inclan, and Mesalina Severino
- Nonetheless, the Hofstra rallied back and tied the game with a kill at 12-12
- Ultimately, this led to a 22-22 tie for yet another close ending
- The Cougars then executed a 3-1 rally with a service ace from Inclan and kills from Severino and Lopez to seal the set win and go up 2-1
Set Four - Chicago State 25, Hofstra 21
- The Cougars once again came in hot and went on a 7-2 run with kills from Feliz and Julieta Sandez
- Chicago State rode on this early momentum all the way to the end as they sealed the set win with a stunning kill from Feliz
The Cougars next face off against Iowa State on Tuesday at 6:30 P.M. in Ames, IA.

Chicago State University Athletics is comprised of 15 intercollegiate teams involving over 150 student-athletes that compete in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and volleyball. Their feat marked the first time the Chicago State's men's track & field program was represented at the national meet. Chicago State volleyball recorded a historic season in 2021, with Yanlis Feliz becoming CSU's first volleyball All-American and head coach Tony Trifonov earning selection as WAC Coach of the Year. During that same season, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
