Box Score The Chicago State women's basketball team dropped a 58-47 decision to the UTRGV Vaqueros Thursday night at the Jones Convocation Center in Chicago.
The Cougars opened the scoring with a beautiful jumper by Kyjai Miles. The Vaqueros bounced back with an 18-0 run leaving Chicago State trailing trailing 18-2.
From this point on, the Cougars only managed four points, with buckets by Laura Segues and Aaliyah Collins as the Vaqueros led 23-6 at the end of the first.
In the second quarter, the Vaqueros continued their streak as Kacee Kyle was sent to the line, converting one, and putting UTRGV up 24-6. The Cougars clawed back with a jumper by Janiah Newell to snap the streak, 24-8.
Throughout the rest of the quarter, the Vaqueros and Cougars converted buckets back-and-forth which kept the Vaqueros with the lead heading into halftime at 33-17.
To start the third quarter, the Cougars open up the scoring as Allysah Boothe poured in a three to cut the Vaqueros lead to 13, 33-20. UTRGV countered with a deuce from Sara Bershers, and the Cougars managed a 5-0 run with another trey from Boothe and a layup from Miles.
Ultimately, the Cougars finished off the third with an 8-0 run which featured buckets from Jazmine Covington, Christina Britter, and Quentarra Mitchell and trailed by 11, 44-33.
UTRGV opened the fourth with a 6-2 run and the Vaqueros Taylor Muff accounted for 11 UTRGV points and led 55-39 before CSU countered with an 8-2 run but lost 58-47.

In 2021, three different CSU teams earned victories over Big Ten opponents with men's soccer beating Northwestern, women's basketball upending Wisconsin and volleyball, which established a school record 17 wins and hosted a post-season volleyball tournament for the first time in program history, swept Indiana in Bloomington.
