Women's Soccer Announces Four Signees

Cristiano Costa adds to class of 2021

CHICAGO — The Chicago State women's soccer program has announced the signings of four incoming freshman to its growing class of 2021, the team announced Wednesday.

Isabelle Bernier, Alexa Seiler, Ilaya Pata and Brianna Galvan headline the incoming crop's newest additions and will join the Cougars this fall for head coach Cristiano Costa's fourth season at the helm.

Isabelle Bernier

Position: Forward

Hometown: Gainesville, Florida

Previous School: Florida Virtual School

Costa: "Isabelle has the strength, speed and skillset to play at this level and score a lot of goals."

Alexa Seiler

Position: Goalkeeper

Hometown: Bruchsal, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany

Previous School: Justus-Knecht-Gymnasium

Costa: "Alexa is a commanding and solid goalkeeper that will make an immediate impact on the team."

Ilaya Pata

Position: Winger

Hometown: Zoetermeer, The Netherlands

Previous School: Erasmus College Zoetermeer      

Costa: "Ilaya understands the game and is very clever with finding ways to create scoring opportunities."

Brianna Galvan

Position: Forward

Hometown: El Paso, Texas

Previous School: El Paso High School

Costa: "Brianna is a natural goalscorer. She scored 90 goals for her high school and undoubtedly will do the same for our program."

About Chicago State

Chicago State University Athletics is comprised of 15 intercollegiate teams involving over 150 student-athletes that compete in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and volleyball. CSU held memberships in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) and NCAA Division II before transitioning to NCAA Division I in 1994. Melvin Bland was the first CSU student athlete to gain NAIA All-American status in 1974 as a wrestler. Fred Evans became the first black swimmer ever to win a national championship in 1975. CSU's women's basketball team earned a spot in the 2011 Women's Basketball Invitational and CSU's men's basketball team won the 2013 Great West Conference Tournament title and made an appearance in the CollegeInside.com Postseason Tournament (CIT).  The Men's Outdoor Track & Field 4x100-Meter Relay team were 2019 Honorable Mention All-Americans and WAC Champions. Their feat marked the first time the Chicago State's men's track & field program was represented at the national meet.
