Lance Irvin announced today that
Favour Chukwukelu has signed a National Letter of Intent to join the men's basketball program, becoming the third member of the Cougars men's basketball recruiting class for the 2021-22 season, joining
Teddy Bayi Ba Mandeng and
Jincho Rivera.
A 6-foot-2, 170-pound guard from Las Vegas, Nevada, Chukwukelu played two seasons at Miles (MT) Community College where he was selected All-Region XIII following his sophomore season. He missed the first six games of the season for the Pioneers but returned to average 17.8 points per game and ranked second in the conference in three-point percentage (46.7%), first in free-throw percentage (92.0) and sixth in three-point field goals made (49).
"I am excited to have Favour Chukwukelu join the men's basketball team at CSU in the fall," Irvin said. "Favour is a proven scorer who can really shoot the basketball. He shot 46 percent from the three-point line in junior college this year and almost 50 percent as a freshman. In addition to the impact he will make on the floor, he will make an even bigger one in the classroom where he is a 4.0 student. I am beyond excited to have Favour be a leader on and off the court for the 2021-22 Cougars."
Chukwukelu averaged 15.0 points per game during his two-year career at Miles CC, playing in 48 games with 38 starts. He converted 248 of 482 shots from the field (51.5 percent), including an impressive 135 of 279 three-point attempts (48.4 percent). He also converted 91 of 108 free throw attempts (84.3 percent) and missed just four free throws in 50 attempts as a sophomore. He also had per game averages of 4.3 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.3 steals.
Chukwukelu joins Teddy Mandeng and Jincho Rivera on the 2021-22 Cougars men's basketball recruiting class. Mandeng earned all-conference honors as a freshman at St. Petersburg College. During his two-year career in St. Petersburg, he averaged 6.8 points per game and 7.1 rebounds per game and recorded 14 double-digit rebound games14 double-digit scoring games and six double-doubles. Rivera, a 6-foot-5, 195-pound forward from Carolina, Puerto Rico, attends St. Joseph High School in Santa Maria, CA, where, through three games this season, is averaging 27 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. He averaged a double-double as a junior, scoring 19.6 points per game while pulling down 11.1 rebounds per game.
