CHICAGO – Several Chicago State student-athletes were honored for their work inside the classroom Thursday night at the 64
th Annual Honors Convocation Awards Ceremony. The Honors awards are presented annually by Chicago State University to give public recognition to students who have excelled and inspire others to accomplish similar outstanding achievements.
Vada Williams, a member of the men's golf team, highlighted the awards for the athletic department as he was named the Outstanding Freshman Scholar, an honor presented to a student who has demonstrated outstanding scholarship, maintains a better than 3.5 grade point average and has been active in the university community.
"Vada is a very involved student," head men's golf coach
Mark Haines said. "When I recruited him to come to Chicago State, part of his résumé, he had an impeccable service record. He's very active in his community. He worked on quite a few different projects for the city and he's excelled in the Honors program. He's a very engaged young man."

Founded in 1924, Alpha Lambda Delta is a national honor society for students who have achieved a 3.5 grade point average or higher and are in the top 20% of their class during their first year or term of higher education. The Chicago State University chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta National Honor Society recognizes these students who have achieved the membership criteria after their first or second semester at Chicago State.
