Box Score Edinburg, Texas — The Chicago State men's tennis team dropped a 6-1 decision to New Mexico State University Saturday morning in Edinburg, Texas. Freshman
Pedro Alvarez continues his strong play for the Cougars. He earned his ninth consecutive win with a 7-6 (3), 6-1 victory over the Aggies Jordy Visser at No. 5.
New Mexico State won two of the three doubles matches to earn the team point.
Javier Sanchez and
Pedro Alverez won 6-4 at No. 2 while
Jakub Zamorski and
Pedja Kolaric lost 7-6 (4) at No. 1 and
Max Sandoval and
Jesus Perez Plaza lost 7-6 (3) at No. 3.
"Great effort by the guys in doubles and we had strong play in singles," head coach
Jack Barton said. "We have four matches before we compete for the WAC tournament title. I think we can do it but we all have to be on the same page."
In singles, New Mexico State claimed the first the matches to clinch the team win.
Jesus Perez Plaza lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2, followed by
Jakub Zamorski, who lost 6-2, 6-3 at No. 4 and
Pedja Kolaric lost 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3. Alvarez then claimed the lone Cougars win before
Max Sandoval lost 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3) and No. 6 and
Javier Sanchez Pradillo lost 7-6 (6), 6-2 at No. 1 to close out the match.
The next action for the Cougars men's tennis team will be non-conference matchups against Eastern Illinois (April 16), Cardinal Stritch (April 18), Illinois State (April 24) and St. Louis (April 25) to close out the regular season. The WAC Tournament is scheduled for April 30-May 2 in Las Cruces, New Mexico.
