RIVERSIDE, Calif. — Playing its first of two matches in California this week, the Chicago State women's soccer team (0-6, 0-4 WAC) dropped Thursday's contest to California Baptist (5-1-1, 3-1), 7-0, at Championship Soccer Stadium.
Four minutes into the match, California Baptist's Ari Coronado weaved through the defense and drilled a top-shelf goal to lift the Lancers ahead, 1-0. 50 seconds later, Rola Badawiya struck a left-foot shot to the back of the net, surging the score to 2-0.
After 16 minutes of back-and-forth dueling, CBU's Amy Aquino snuck a shot to the left of Chicago State goalkeeper Stella Chiara Chiaradia to widen the lead to three.
California Baptist scored two more goals before halftime, coming from Neleah Dunlap and Deniah Wells.
Four minutes into the second half, CBU's Madison Sonerholm rolled a pass to Karley Weeks right in front of the net, which Weeks kicked into the goal. The Lancers secured one more score, Badawiya's second strike, in the 65th minute.
The two teams will battle again at 4:30 p.m. CT on Saturday in Riverside, California. The game will be broadcast on the WAC Digital Network.
