Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. — In its final match before next week's home opener, the Chicago State women's soccer team (0-7, 0-5 WAC) fell to California Baptist (6-1-1, 4-1 WAC), 7-0, at Championship Soccer Stadium.
"CBU is a very solid team," head coach Cristiano Costa said. "I'm extremely proud of the girls for putting up the fight with them."
In the 5th minute, California Baptist's Rola Badawiya kicked off the scoring with a goal off an Ari Coronado assist. Minutes later, Coronado again played distributor, setting up Madison Sonerholm for an 8th minute score that snuck past Chicago State goalkeeper Stella Chiara Chiaradia.
Playing in California sunshine, the two squads then dueled for 30 scoreless minutes before CBU's Gracie Bowers drilled a goal to power the Lancers ahead, 3-0, entering halftime.
Six minutes into the second half, Badawiya scored her second goal of the day to extend California Baptist's lead to 4-0. She then scored her third goal five minutes later to cap off a hat trick for the senior forward.
In the 60th minute, the Cougars secured an offensive-zone chance, with Jaydie Hanks tallying a shot, but a stout CBU defense squashed the opportunity.
With CBU on top 5-0, the Lancers then racked up two more goals in the final 30 minutes to earn their second consecutive win.
The Cougars will make their 2021 home debut at 1:00 p.m. CT on Thursday at SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois.
