Box Score Indianapolis, IN. — The Chicago State men's tennis team lost 5-2 to the Butler Bulldogs Friday afternoon in Indianapolis. The Cougars got off to a good start, winning the doubles point, but dropped five of six singles matches where freshman
Pedro Alvarez picked up the lone win for CSU.
In doubles,
Javier Sanchez and
Pedro Alvarez picked up a 6-3 decision at No. 2 and won the team point when
Jakov Suler and
Max Sandoval won 6-4 at No. 3.
Jakub Zamorski and
Pedja Kolaric lost 6-2 at No. 1.
"Doubles was a great start," head coach
Jack Barton said. "We played really well and had great energy on the court."
Alvarez, playing on the fifth line at Butler, earned his team-leading seventh win of the season with a 6-3, 3-6, 10-3 win. He improved his season singles record to 7-4.
Jakov Suler dropped a 4-6, 6-4, 6-2 decision at No. 1 while
Javier Sanchez lost 6-0, 6-2 at No. 2. At No. 3,
Jakub Zamorski lost 6-4, 6-1,
Pedja Kolaric lost 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 and
Max Sandoval lost 6-4, 7-6.
"In certain singles matches, we stuck to the game plan but just ran out of gas at the end," Barton said. "In some of the other matches we started slow because we didn't stick to the game plan. Everyone has a part to play and we have to trust the work that we're putting in."
The Cougars next match is Sunday, March 21, against UIC in Park Forest.
