Cougars Lose To Hot-Shooting Seattle

Chicago State and Seattle return to the pitch Saturday

SEATTLE — In its first of two matches in the Pacific Northwest, the Chicago State women's soccer team (0-10, 0-8 WAC) fell to Seattle (7-3-1, 6-1-1 WAC), 8-0.

16 minutes in, the Redhawks' Lehai Monthei set up Sydney Carr for a goal-scoring opportunity, and Carr struck in a shot to the back of the net to lift Seattle ahead, 1-0. Seven minutes later, the two paired up again, and Carr's second score made the line 2-0 Redhawks.

In the 25th minute, Bailey Hall joined the action, knocking in Seattle's third score of the night.

Two more Seattle goals — including a 26th-minute strike from Carr for her third — then put the Redhawks firmly in the driver's seat, 5-0, at halftime.

Carr drove in her fourth goal of the night in the 62nd minute, and Seattle tacked on two more scores in the next stretch, to secure an 8-0 lead.

During the 73rd minute, Chicago State's Barbara Castellanos, a West Chicago native, led an offensive-zone attack and logged a shot that Seattle goalkeeper Madison Waguespack saved.

Chicago State goalkeeper Stella Chiara Chiaradia logged 13 saves on the evening.

The Cougars and Redhawks will duel again on Saturday in Seattle at 3 p.m. CT. The match will be streamed on the WAC Digital Network.
