CHICAGO — For the third week in a row, Chicago State freshman guard Aaliyah Collins has been chosen as the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
Collins was first named Freshman of the Week on November 22 and has earned the honor in each week since.
On the season, Collins leads the Cougars with 15.8 points per game and ranks fourth in NCAA Division I, and leads the conference, with 31 steals.
Beginning just her second month at the college level, Collins scored 13 points in a buzzer-beating loss to Indiana State, then dropped in 20 points, adding three steals, six rebounds and four assists.
Collins has now scored in double figures in eight consecutive games, doing so in all but the season opener. The 20-point outing against St. Thomas also marked her third such outing of the season, the first of which was 25 points on November 22 at Wisconsin, the Cougars' first win since January 2020.
Collins is from Snohomish, Washington and came to CSU after being named the 2021 Washington Girls Basketball Player of the Year by The Herald.
The Cougars are back in action at Green Bay on Thursday, December 16 at 7:00 p.m.
