After five consecutive road games, the Chicago State women's basketball team (1-6) returns to Chicago to face Indiana State after the programs' 2020 matchup was canceled due to COVID-19. The game tips off at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 1, and fans can follow below:
WHAT'S HAPPENING After their meeting in 2020 was canceled due to COVID-19, Chicago State faces Indiana State for the 5th time in the Cougars' return to the Jones Convocation Center after a five-game road swing that took CSU through Western Illinois, Loyola Chicago, Wisconsin and Miami. The Cougars, fresh off the program's first win in nearly two full seasons — an OT thriller at Wisconsin — will look to stymie a 2-4 Indiana State team in its first season under head coach Chad Killinger.
ALL-TIME Chicago State and Indiana State first met during the 1975-76 season, and the two sides have battled four times, with Indiana State winning all four game. In the last matchup, the Sycamores won, 69-35, on December 18, 2012. Last season, the two sides were scheduled to meet on December 14 in Chicago, but the contest was canceled due to COVID-19 protocol.
LAST TIME OUT A week after the Cougars earned the program's first win since Jan. 18, 2020, taking down Wisconsin, 71-63 in an overtime thriller in Madison, the Cougars fell in back-to-back games at the Florida International University Thanksgiving Tournament. The Cougars fell, 64-46, to FIU on Saturday then to Delaware, 72-63, on Saturday. Aaliyah Collins, after winning WAC Freshman of the Week, scored 20 and 19 points, respectively.
SIZING UP THE SYCAMORES The 2-4 Sycamores are fresh off a 71-67 win over Georgia Southern. Indiana State is powered by Adrian Folks (14.6 ppg) and Del'Janae Williams (11.8 ppg). The GSU win snapped a four-game skid after Indiana State took down Stephens College in its season opener.
SQUAD UP Only three players from last season's roster return for Sardin's bunch: Christina Britter, Ana Haklicka and Laura Segues. Sardin has added two assistant coaches, Tiffany Conner and Diana Martinez, two freshman, Taylor Norris and Aaliyah Collins, and six transfers: Quentarra Mitchell, Nafa Haidara, Kyjai Miles, Janiah Newell, Jazmine Covington and Allysah "Cookie" Boothe.
