CHICAGO — For the second consecutive week, Chicago State freshman guard Aaliyah Collins has been selected as the Western Athletic Conference Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced Monday.
It's Collins' second honor of the season, after she was first named Freshman of the Week on November 22.
In just her third week of Division I college basketball Collins continued to roll, as she powered Chicago State to its first win since January 2020, a 71-63 overtime victory at Wisconsin, which was also the program's first win over a Big Ten team since 2008.
In the win, Collins poured in 25 points and snagged six boards. She then followed that up with 20 and 19-point outings in the Cougars' two games at the FIU Thanksgiving Tournament, finishing the week with averages of 21.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game.
Collins currently leads the conference and ranks third in NCAA Division I with 27 steals, averaging nearly four per game.
Collins, who hails from Snohomish, Washington, was named the 2021 Washington Girls Basketball Player of the Year by The Herald before joining Chicago State.
After five consecutive road games, the Cougars return to the Jones Convocation Center on Wednesday, December 1 for a 6 p.m. showdown with Indiana State.
