Preview: Women's Basketball Faces Loyola Chicago

Cougars battle Ramblers for 15th all-time meeting

The Chicago State women's basketball team (0-3) looks for its first win of the season with a matchup against Loyola Chicago in Rogers Park.

WHAT'S HAPPENING Chicago State faces its second of a pair of in-state duels, going toe-to-toe with Loyola Chicago. This is the second Loyola vs. Chicago State matchup of the Tiffany Sardin era.

ALL-TIME Chicago State and Loyola Chicago meet Saturday  for the 15th time. The Ramblers lead the all-time series, 11-3, having won each of the last 10 showdowns. CSU's last win was a 55-53 victory on November 20, 2007, exactly 14 years to the day of this matchup. Last season, Loyola won the season-opener at the Jones Convocation Center, 70-57.

LAST TIME OUT Freshman point guard Aaliyah Collins led CSU with 13 points, her third consecutive game as the Cougars' leading scorer, but CSU fell to Western Illinois, 77-50. The Cougars were within five points at halftime, 35-30, but the Leathernecks owned the third quarter to pull away.

SIZING UP THE RAMBLERS Loyola returns 11 players, and 80% of its scoring, from a squad last season that went 12-15 and made the WBI. The WBI appearance was the program's first-ever postseason appearance, and five players earned All-Missouri Valley Conference honors. Head coach Katie Achter is in her sixth season leading the program.

SQUAD UP Only three players from last season's roster return for Sardin's bunch: Christina Britter, Ana Haklicka and Laura Segues. Sardin has added two assistant coaches, Tiffany Conner and Diana Martinez, two freshman, Taylor Norris and Aaliyah Collins, and six transfers: Quentarra Mitchell, Nafa Haidara, Kyjai Miles, Janiah Newell, Jazmine Covington and Allysah "Cookie" Boothe.
