BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — The Chicago State women's soccer team (1-13-1, 1-7- WAC) fell, 2-0, to Sam Houston State on Sunday afternoon at SeatGeek Stadium.
Early in the match, the Bearkats stuck as Caitlyn McDonald scored from point-blank range at the 6:23 mark on a wonderful set-up by Katarina Barhren.
Then, just 50 seconds later, Summer Knox rolled the ball to McDonald at the top of the box, roughly 25 yards from the net. Using her left food, McDonald struck in a beautiful top-shelf goal to make it 2-0 Sam Houston.
That score held firm to halftime as Chicago State's backline and goalkeeper Alexa Seiler remained stout in the pouring rain.
In the second half, the Cougars demonstrated far more aggression, with numerous chances to score. Among them was Marissa Beale, who nearly scored midway through the second half, but phenomenal defensive play from Sam Houston remained the script of the evening.
The Bearkats didn't score in half two but held on for a 2-0 win.
The Cougars return to action on Thursday, October 28 at Lamar University.
