Chicago State Men's Soccer Drops Match to Utah Valley

Cougars welcome senior day next

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. — The Chicago State men's soccer team (2-10-2, 0-6-1 WAC) suffered a 5-0 loss to Utah Valley Wolverines Friday at SeatGeek Field.

"This was a tough match," head coach Trevor Banks said. "We played well in the first half but couldn't sustain it throughout the second. When you play a good team like that, and you don't take care of the few chances, you have it comes back to hunt you as it did for us in the second. We will move on and forget about this one as we prepare for senior day on Sunday. We're excited to be back in the stadium, where it has a bit more of home feeling."

In the first half of the match, both sides produced several chances, but the Cougars and Wolverines were each stymied by stellar backline play. As a result, the first half remained scoreless at 0-0.

It wasn't until the second half, in the 55th minute, that the Wolverines would finally open up the scoring with a finish by Aaron Nixon, who was assisted by Jojea Kwizera.

Shortly after that, the Wolverines struck again with a goal from Nixon who again was assisted by Kwizera.

The Cougars continued pushing to score their own goal, but nonetheless, Utah Valley scored its third in the 74th minute with a finish by Diego Castillo, who was assisted by Evans Armah.

The Wolverines went on to score two more goals, courtesy of James Pena and Cameron Weston.

At the final whistle, the Wolverines comfortably cruised their way to the win with a final score of 5-0.

The Cougars next face California Baptist University Sunday at 12 p.m. for senior day at SeatGeek Stadium.
