Storylines

Guess Who's Back, Back Again: After a 32-day layover, Chicago State women's basketball returns to action. The Cougars have had eight games postponed this season while following NCAA COVID-19 protocol and now open Western Athletic Conference competition against California Baptist.

Come In and Stay Awhile: Iffy Okoye, a junior transfer from Virginia Union, became eligible in December to play based on an NCAA Division I Council vote granting a blanket waiver to allow all Division I transfers to play this year. Okoye, a native of Lagos, Nigeria, made her debut December 21 at SIUE. The forward asserted herself off the bat, leading all Cougars with 12 points and eight rebounds. Okoye made 5-of-8 shots from the field in her Chicago State debut.

McBeast: In her Division I debut season, Nadia Thorman-McKey (Evanston, IL/Evanston Township) has powered Chicago State's offense. After pouring in a team-high 19 points on 9-of-16 shooting on November 28 vs. Loyola-Chicago, the Evanston, Illinois native tallied 18 points against DePaul's dynamic defense. She then tied a team-high by snaring eight rebounds on December 21 at SIUE. Through three games, Thorman-McKey's 15.3 points per game leads the Cougars, as do her 6.3 rebounds. The Evanston native is shooting 48.8 percent from the field, which leads Cougars who have played in multiple games.

Croatian Sensation: Through three games, Dubrovnik, Croativa-native Ana Haklicka (Dubrovnik, Croatia/Touristic and Catering School ) has asserted herself as the Cougars floor general. The first-year point guard played 39 of 40 minutes in the team's opener and scored 13 points in each of the first two games. Her eight total assists also lead all Cougars.

Cleaning the Glass like Windex: Christina Britter (Dunlap, IL/Dunlap ), a junior transfer from Northern Illinois, has owned the offensive glass during the young season. She has coralled nine offensive boards in three games, leading the squad.

Tres for Segues: In Chicago State's first two games, freshman Laura Segues (Castelloli, Spain) drilled four three-pointers. The Castellolí, Spain-native scored 10 points against DePaul, just her second collegiate game.
