WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.– The Chicago State men' tennis team played a pair of matches on Saturday in West Lafayette, Ind. The Cougars fell, 4-0, to host Purdue and dropped a heartbreaker, 4-3, to IUPUI to close the day.
Against the IUPUI Jaguars, the Cougars came out really hot and took the doubles point for the first time this season.
Jakub Zamorski (Boguchwala, Poland/) and
Javier Sanchez Pradillo (Toledo, Spain/) set the tone with a 6-2 win over Michael Koch and Reed Plunkett and teammates
Cody Wurzelbacher (Toledo, Ohio/Springfield) and
Pedja Kolaric (Birkenfeld, Germany/) earn the point with a 6-2 win over IUPUI's Nicholas Moody and Alex Jochim.
Singles was battle from the outset. The Jaguars were able to tie the match with a win at No. 4 singles as Eric Hollikngsworth defeatedKolaric, 6-2, 6-0. The Cougars were able to take a 3-1 lead with wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles. Zamorski earned his first career singles win with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Moody and Wurzelbacher grabbed a 6-3, 6-3 win over Koch
THe Jaguars tied it up with straight set wins at No. 3 and No. 2 singles, leaving the match in the balance at No. 1. Chicago State's
Jakov Suler (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska Gimnazija), win the first set 6-2 but Jochim picked up some momentum with a 7-5 win in the second set. Suler was up 5-4 in the set before a break from Jochim which led to Jochim's winning the set. The third set Suler was able to break Jochim at 4-3 but Jochim broke back and held serve to take the set and give the Jaguars the match.
The Cougars couldn't get much going against Purdue in the first match of the day. After dropping the doubles point, the Boilermakers won the match with straight set victories at No. 5, No. 4 and No. 3 to clinch the match.
