PHOENIX, Ariz. – The Chicago men's basketball team dropped 71-47 road contest to Grand Canyon on Saturday night. The Cougars were led by
Amir Gholizadeh (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Toronto Basketball Academy) who tallied a team-best 18 points in the loss to the Lopes.
The Cougars started the contest slow which allowed the home team to jump out to an 11-1 lead at the 14:46 mark.
Ke'Sean Davis (Compton, Calif./Taft Charter H.S.) was able to end the Lopes hot start with a bucket off the bench but the home team still lead 13-5 at the first media timeout of the. Contest.
With the Lopes leading 19-9, Chicago State cut it to a two-possession game courtesy of a 7-3 spurt sparked by a triple from Gholizadeh but Grand Canyon closed the half on a 12-2 run to take a 34-18 lead at the break.
Grand Canyon started the second half with momentum but the Cougars chipped away at a once 15-point lead to get it to single digits at the 12:29 mark. Chicago State used a 15-6 burst highlighted by key buckets from
Solomon Hunt (Pomona, Calif./Upland H.S.) and Davis to get back in the game.
That would be as close as the Cougars got the remainder of the contest as the Lopes saw their lead balloon to over 20 points en route to the victory.

The Cougars will come home to take on California Baptist in the final home game of the year on Feb. 22. The Cougars will celebrate senior Noah Bigirumwani with a pregame ceremony. The game will also be a Black Out game with all fans being encouraged to wear black.
