Homewood, Ill.– The Chicago State men' tennis team had three matches go three sets and battled the North Dakota Hawks all day but came up just short in a 5-2 loss at Homewood-Flossmor Racquet and Fitness on Saturday.
After dropping a tough three-setter on Friday at No. 2 singles,
Jesus Perez Plaza (Madrid, Spain/) was on the right side of the three-setter on Saturday. After dropping the first set, 6-1, Perez Plaza left no doubt in the second and third sets, taking convincing 6-4, 6-3 wins to earn the victory.
Javier Sanchez Pradillo (Toledo, Spain/), split the weekend winning a three-setter on Saturday. After winning the first set, Sanchez Pradillio battled but dropped the second set 7-5 before gutting out a 10-8 win in the third.
In his season debut
Jakub Zamorski (Boguchwala, Poland/), playing at No. 6 singles battled North Dakota's Lukas Percy but dropped the match in straight sets.
In doubles, the Cougars dropped the point but were competitive in all three matches including posting a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles with
Jakov Suler (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska Gimnazija) and Perez Plaza dropping a heartbreaking 7-6(8) match the tandem of Luka Buth and Andy Petrovic.
