CHICAGO, Ill. — In a gutsy performance, the Chicago State men's basketball team fell, 88-51, to Loyola-Chicago Wednesday afternoon at Gentile Arena in Chicago. All eight Cougars players who dressed contributed in the scoring column in the first half and Chicago State took care of the ball with a season-low low six first-half turnovers.
After taking a 39-31 lead into the locker room at halftime, the Ramblers scored the first 13 points of the second half to leave the Cougars playing catch-up, with Loyola extending the lead to 52-31 with 15:04 remaining in the game. From there, the Remblers extended the advantage for a 37-point win.
Levelle Zeigler (Oakland, Calif. /Ridgeview HS) was the Chicago State's leading scorer for the third consecutive game, finishing with a team-high 12 points while
Ke'Sean Davis (Compton, Calif./Taft Charter H.S.) added 10 points and a team-high six rebounds.
Carlo Marble (/West Des Moines Valley) and
Kalil Whitehead (Detroit, Mich./Cass Technical) each added seven while Whitehead connected on the first three-point attempt of his collegiate career in the first half.
Cameron Krutwig led the Ramblers — and all scorers — with 22 points on 10-of-13 shooting. He barely missed a double-double, pulling down nine rebounds. Loyola's Tate Hall was the only other player in double figures, with 15 points.
Chicago State will continue the non-conference portion of its schedule with a trip to Doug Collins Court at Redbird Arena in Normal, Illinois on Tuesday, December 15, to take on the Illinois State Redbirds at 2 p.m. CT.
