Chicago–Two Chicago State student-athletes,
Orelle Bulgin (men's track & field) and
Jorge Garzon (men's golf), are among the 159 2020 Chicago State Fall Graduates. Their accomplishment will be recognized with a virtual ceremony today.
Bulgin, a native of Montego Bay, Jamaica, earned his degree in Physics with a Bioscience Application Option. He was a 10-time WAC All-Academic selection (cross country in 2018, 2019; indoor track & field in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020; outdoor track & field in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020) and the Chicago State record holder in the triple jump, with an indoor distance of 48'-0" (14.63m). Bulgin earned three WAC All-Conference selections in indoor (2019, 2020) and outdoor track & field (2019), finishing second in the triple jump at the 2019 outdoor WAC championship, third in the triple jump at the 2019 indoor WAC championship and sixth in the triple jump at the 2020 indoor WAC championship. He also is a four-time triple jump invitational event champion (2019-20).
Garzon, a native of Bogata, Colombia, earned his degree in Marketing and was twice named Academic All-WAC. He had the second lowest individual scoring average the two years he competed in golf at Chicago State and his scores were used in all 37 rounds in which he played with the Cougars. Garzon finished his collegiate golf career with his best finish in any event, shooting two over par at the Savannah State Invite, placing sixth individually. In his final event, he a shot a 72-hole career low 227 with a final round 73 in the ASU Spring Classic. That effort helped the Cougars establish two school records: an 883 72-hole record (+19) and an 18-hole final round total of 290 (+2). As a senior, Garzon was a top three scorer in each of CSU's six events, including low individual two times. He played No. 2 and helped the program to its lowest single-season scoring average and improved his personal scoring average 3.2 shots, from 79.68 to 76.47, from his junior to senior year. He played 37 rounds during his two-year career and averaged 78.38 which ranks in the top 10 career scoring averages at Chicago State and, as a senior, his scoring average of 76.47 ranks in the top 10 in single-season scoring average at CSU.
