ST. LOUIS– The Chicago State men's tennis team fought tooth and nail against Saint Louis on Friday night but came up just short dropping the contest, 4-3.
Jakov Suler (Zagreb, Croatia/Sportska Gimnazija) picked up his second consecutive win at No. 1 singles while Jesus Sanchez Pradillo won at No. 3 singles.
The Cougars started the match off by winning the double point for the first time this young spring season. The pair of Suler and
Cody Wurzelbacher (Toledo, Ohio/Springfield) defeated Ales Heifen and Pavel Badaiants, 6-2 before Jesus Perez Plaza and Sanchez Pradillo earned the point with a convincing 6-1 victory.
Trailing the match early, 3-1, Sanchez Pradillo got the Cougars back in the match, with a straight sets, 6-2-6-0 win over Ignacio Tintore, but the Bilikens battled back with a 6-3, 6-2, win at No. 2 singles as Pavel Badaiants defeated Perez Plaza.
The match of the afternoon was at No 1 singles where Suler matched up with Justin Nogalski. Suler took the opening set, 6-2 before Nogalski battled back to even things with a 6-7 (6-8) tiebreaker win in the second set. Suler wouldn't be denied in the third taking home his second win of the season at No. 1 with a resounding 6-4 win.
